The Opening of UNAP-Global

United Nations Association of the Philippines-Global and Partners Celebrate the Opening of the Global UNAP UN Peace Center

The United Nations Association of the Philippines-Global (UNAP-Global), in collaboration with The Fraternal Order of Eagles – Philippine Eagles Inc., DERIN, UNESCO, and the International Theater Institute, proudly celebrated the Opening of the Global UNAP UN Peace Center and Peace Gathering at Pulilan Butterfly Haven, San Francisco, Pulilan, Bulacan on March 2, 2025.

The event was graciously hosted by former BIR Commissioner Dr. Estelita Caleon-Aguirre, with a program that commenced at 8:00 AM and concluded at 2:00 PM. A Warm Welcome and Meaningful Messages
Before the formal program began, attendees were welcomed with a delightful array of local delicacies, including Bibingka and Okoy, setting the stage for a gathering enriched with culture and camaraderie.

Welcome Remarks: Ric Cruz, Global UNAP President, delivered an inspiring address, paying tribute to the Aguirre Clan’s enduring legacy and sharing insights into the remarkable life and contributions of Dr. Estelita Caleon-Aguirre. He also marked the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations, reflecting on its pivotal role in global peace and development. Furthermore, he underscored the significance of establishing 80 UN Peace Centers across the Philippines, emphasizing their role in fostering unity, diplomacy, and sustainable peace initiatives throughout the nation.

Key Messages from Distinguished Speakers

Pulilan Mayor Maritz Montejo highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Municipality of Pulilan, showcasing its progress in local governance and community development. She also tackled the pressing challenges in waste management, emphasizing the need for more sustainable solutions. In her address, she drew a comparison between Pulilan’s ongoing waste management initiatives and the highly successful waste segregation program of Marikina City, offering insights on best practices and potential improvements to enhance environmental sustainability in her municipality.

Limpayen Sibug Las, Chairperson of the NCIP, delivered a compelling message on the vital role of indigenous communities in fostering peace and unity among the nation’s diverse cultural tribes. She emphasized the deep-rooted traditions of harmony, conflict resolution, and mutual respect embedded in indigenous heritage, highlighting how these values can serve as a foundation for sustainable peacebuilding efforts across the country.

Cecile Guidote Alvarez delivered an insightful discussion on the profound impact of arts and cultural heritage in today’s world. She emphasized how the arts serve as a powerful medium for education, social awareness, and peacebuilding, preserving the rich traditions and identities of diverse communities while adapting to modern challenges. Her presentation underscored the essential role of culture in shaping societies, fostering dialogue, and promoting unity amidst diversity.

Dr. Estelita Caleon-Aguirre shared a heartfelt narrative on the rich history of the Aguirre Clan and the inspiring vision behind the Pulilan Butterfly Haven. She expressed her deep admiration for the late Senator Heherson Alvarez, recognizing his enduring contributions to environmental advocacy and peace initiatives. With great enthusiasm, she conveyed her profound excitement and honor in seeing Butterfly Haven officially recognized as a UN Peace Center, marking it as a sanctuary for harmony, dialogue, and environmental preservation in the pursuit of global peace.
