The 142nd ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) Council Meeting was successfully conducted in Singapore on May 7–9, 2026, bringing together accounting and finance leaders, professional accountancy organizations, and representatives from across the ASEAN region and Asia. Hosted by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, the meeting served as an important platform for regional collaboration, policy discussions, and strategic planning for the advancement of the accountancy profession. Delegates discussed key organizational matters including the approval of the 2025 AFA Annual Report and audited financial statements, updates on the 2026 AFA strategic plan, and reports from various working committees focused on professional development, governance, and regional cooperation.
The council meeting also highlighted emerging global and regional developments affecting the accounting profession, particularly in sustainability reporting, professional education, digital transformation, and international collaboration. Representatives from the International Federation of Accountants shared updates on global initiatives and practical guidance for member organizations, while ASEAN leaders exchanged insights on strengthening cooperation among professional bodies in the region. Discussions emphasized the importance of unity, shared learning, and collective action in addressing evolving economic and regulatory challenges. The event further reinforced Singapore’s role as a hub for professional engagement and demonstrated the continued commitment of ASEAN accountancy organizations toward enhancing professional standards, innovation, and public trust across the region.
